Strategi Guru dalam Membangun Kesadaran Sosial dan Lingkungan melalui IPS di Sekolah Dasar

This study aims to describe teachers' strategies in building social and environmental awareness through Social Studies (IPS) learning in elementary schools. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving three IPS teachers and 15 fourth-grade students as informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation in the form of teaching materials, activity photos, and learning notes. Analysis was conducted using thematic analysis with the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, and its validity was maintained through triangulation and member checking. The results showed that teachers implemented various strategies, including project-based thematic learning, group discussions, simulations and role-plays, and the integration of local and cultural values. These strategies increased students' active involvement, critical thinking skills, empathy, and socio-environmental responsibility. The integration of local context made learning more relevant, interesting, and meaningful. In conclusion, the combination of contextual and participatory strategies was effective in fostering social and environmental awareness in elementary school students. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for social studies teachers in developing innovative, participatory, and hands-on learning strategies that build on students' real-life experiences. This ensures that learning focuses not only on theory but also on developing sustainable socio-environmental character.
